Bringing Structure to AI Adoption: Meet the PLAY Framework
AI is obviously front of mind for lots of people. AI is just like “innovation” - it can happen in my forms and anyone and everyone in the organisation.
So how do you organise the efforts?
How do you encourage the use of it without it becoming the wild west?
How do you coordinate efforts so it isn’t a distraction and a waste of time (and energy)?
With these questions in mind, I created the PLAY framework.
It can help assess where a company is on its AI maturity path and some guidance about how to manage AI efforts at different stages.
The framework in a nutshell:
P – Playing Around 🎮
Purpose: Explore AI tools on your own — no business risk, just discovery and fun.
L – Learning Together 🤝
Purpose: Collaborate in small teams to apply AI to internal workflows to deepen understanding of AI’s capabilities.
A – Applying with Purpose 🎯
Purpose: Launch targeted pilots tied to goals of the business, defined metrics, and legal oversight.
Y – Yielding Transformation 🚀
Purpose: Integrate AI at scale by embedding it into strategy, policy, culture, and governance.
I’d love to hear your thoughts:
Where do you think your organization sits on this maturity path?
Which phase do you see most companies skipping or confusing?
Anything you’d add or adapt, based on your experience?
